For carrying heavy loads on a bike, and especially if using a front rack or front child seat, it can be useful also to have a steering damper on your bike so that the steering doesn't "flop" when the bike is parked.
The Hebie steering damper uses a spring to prevent the steering from turning when you need it not to. However, it doesn't affect handling of the bike in normal use.
There are three versions:
- The "universal" 0695 damper to fit down tubes between 28 and 62 mm diameter and which works with suspended or normal forks (two brackets are provided - shorter for normal forks and longer to reach to the crown at the front of suspended forks).
- A version with elastomer designed for fixed forks only. This has the short version of the bracket.
- A version with elastomer designed for suspension forks. This has the klemconus bracket which fits within the fork underneath the steerer tube.
For fitting to a bike with suspension and no hole in the crown, you need the third version which comes the part which fits inside the underside of the steerer tube. This can also be ordered for other bikes if you prefer the elastomer to a spring.
