Fast / Racing Tyres

When speed is important, you sometimes have to make some compromises in comfort or durability.

There are really three groups here. The Grand Prix, Durano and Stelvio are serious light weight fast tyres. These three are quite comparable in performance, and perhaps not really sturdy enough for use on the front wheels of a recumbent trike.

Following these we have the SportContact and the Kojak, both of which are slick tyres, both still quick, but they're a bit more durable than the really fast group.

After this, the Marathon Racer provides another step up in durability, and in comfort on bad surfaces due to increased width, with a slight decrease in speed.

Following on, the Big Apple and Furious Fred are both wide tyres, achieving low rolling resistance at the cost of worsened aerodynamics. They're quick, but add a lot of comfort as well and run well on bad surfaces. Look out especially for the "Super Moto" special version of the Big Apple.
