Adaptor for Presta valves in Schrader rims

Many people prefer Presta valves but have bicycles which have rims drilled for the larger hole required for a Schrader or Dunlop valve. Presta valve inner tubes can be used with such rims, but it takes some care and there is always a risk involved. It can be difficult to arrange that the valve sits upright in the overly large valve hole and damage to inner tubes (usually not patchable because it is so close to the valve) is quite common.
This adaptor allows Presta tubes to be used safely in Schrader rims. A tube of 6 mm inner diameter and 8 mm outer diameter adapts the hole to the correct size for a Presta valve and is supported within the rim by an 11 mm wide by 20 mm long flat section which fits easily between spoke holes even with smaller wheel sizes. Rim tape should be fitted on top of the adaptor.
These parts are individually 3D printed, a relatively time-consuming method of production in comparison with injection molding. The finish of 3D printed parts is not perfect, but the functionality of these adaptors is not affected by finish. In any case, these parts are not on display but hidden within the wheel. The plastic used is PLA. These parts will last many years in use but when eventually disposed of this material will biodegrade.
Note: Colour may vary (black / transparent / white ). You can't see the part when installed in your wheel.
Fitting note: Make sure that this part fits snugly inside your rim and cannot move. You may need to reduce the width slightly by using a file. It is also important that the whole in the centre is of sufficient diameter for your valve to pass through easily. This is reworked after printing by us to accommodate valves, but valve stems vary a little in width so you may have to run a file through the hole to widen it slightly. If rim tape enters the hole then this will block it.
