Shimano Roller Brake

Please note: The supply situation for roller brakes is dependent on which models are currently popular with large Dutch bike manufacturers.

Shimano's roller brakes are a type of hub brake which mounts on the side of hubs with roller brake mounts. This includes some of Shimano's hub dynamos. Please order front and rear brakes separately. Note that several different options are available. The more expensive versions have more braking strength and cooling fins which make them less likely to suffer from brake fade.

Roller brakes are compatible with road / comfort style brake levers such as Shimano's own or the Tektro FL730.

Note that in order to fit a roller brake you need a mount for the reaction arm against which the brake operates.

These are excellent brakes for bicycles which are used on a daily basis as they are extremely reliable with no maintenance normally being required beyond very occasional lubrication.

Front or rear wheel ?
Note that roller brakes have different designs depending on whether they are intended for use on the front or rear wheel. Please make sure you order the correct brake for your wheel.
