A multi-tool is an essential part of a touring toolkit. By combining many tools into one compact device, it reduces the bulk and weight of tools that you might otherwise carry.

This multi-tool has a claimed 22 functions, of which we really only count 20:

• Chain tool with foldable chain retainer, and pin compartment for those who use Shimano chains
• Spanners in 8, 9, 10, 13, 14 and 15 mm sizes
• Spoke tools for 3.22, 3.33, 3.45 and 3.96 mm spoke nipples
• Allen keys in 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 mm sizes
• #2 Philips screwdriver
• T25 Torx

The tool comes in two halves, joined by a magnet instead of an easy to break clip. As a result, the spanners can be used apart from the screwdrivers and Allen keys. A small rubbery pocket is also provided to keep the two halves together and protect other items that you're carrying.

You should always give your bike a thorough check before embarking on a long tour. However, sometimes the unexpected happens. This tool can be used to fix many common problems which could occur along the way.
