The Philips 40 lux battery light is very similar to the dynamo version but comes with a battery pack, a charger and 4 rechargeable AA cells. The light has a shaped beam which avoids blinding oncoming cyclists or drivers, and concentrates the light which is generated in a useful shape in front of you extending to a useable range of 30 m.
There are two modes: the full 40 lux mode with which the batteries last 40 minutes and a "City-eco" mode which lasts 3 hours. A single switch on top of the light changes mode and switches the light on and off. An indicator shows when the battery capacity has reduced to just 25%.
If you want an even brighter headlight, take a look at the 80 lux light from Philips.
Extra brackets are available to fit the light onto your handlebars, but not for the battery compartment.
This light meets the requirements of the German StVZO.
