Lights
The headlights offered here all of course have very bright LEDs as a light source. However, they also all have advanced optics, which make a lot more difference in use due to putting the light where you need it to be. Many years ago, when the options for bicycle lighting were more primitive, I would make my own bike lights in an attempt to get something bright enough to ride in complete darkness. It's no longer necessary to do this. DIY is still possible, of course, but because you can't buy the sort of shaped lens and mirror used in lights such as those from Philips and the Busch and Muller IQ series, attempts to do so are always unsatisfactory in that powerful lights dazzle oncoming cyclists and drivers while not lighting up the way in front of you as well as they should. I've tried making lights with 1 W Luxeon LEDs combined with available lenses, as combined in some low cost products, and the result is a long way short of the best commercial lights. In our view, the best currently available bicycle lights are those from Philips. We have a blog post which includes more information about each of the options in their range. |
